The Bahamas Literacy Association (BLA) is pleased to announce that the i-Ready platform has officially been established and is now active. i-Ready is an adaptive learning program designed to assess students’ literacy skills and provide personalized, self-paced interventions to support their reading development. The program helps educators track progress, identify learning gaps, and tailor instruction to meet students’ specific needs.
For this inaugural cohort, several schools and programs are represented, including:
• Claridge Primary
• Carlton Francis Primary
• Ridgeland Primary
• T.G. Glover Professional Development School
• H. O. Nash
• C.R. Walker Senior High School
• Doris Johnson Senior High School
• The Bahamas Literacy Association Saturday Tutoring Program (students from various schools)
• Eleuthera Tutoring Arm
• Marjorie Davis Institute students
The facilitation and management of the program will be led by Rasjinique Smith and Lakell Johnson. Their responsibilities include overseeing data management, ensuring that teachers from the participating schools become familiar with the platform, and coordinating the initial assessment phase. These assessments will be conducted between Wednesday and Saturday of this week, after which students will progress through i-Ready’s self-paced interventions.
To highlight the schools’ participation in this groundbreaking initiative, we are inviting principals from the listed schools to join us for a group photo at Marjorie Davis Institute on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. upon their availability. This photo opportunity will symbolize their schools’ partnership with BLA underscoring a shared commitment to tracking and improving student literacy outcomes.
Additionally, we aim to have our sponsors and representatives from the Ministry of Education Headquarters, including the Language Arts Education Officer and the Primary Language Education Officer, present for this occasion. More details will be provided on Saturday, as we are in the process of engaging school representatives.
We sincerely apologize for the delay in launching the program and appreciate the patience and continued support of all stakeholders. We look forward to a successful partnership and the positive impact this initiative will have on our students.
