📚 Join Us for “Read with Rotary” as a Volunteer! 📚 The Rotary Club of Old Fort invites you to join our reading sessions at The Bahamas Association for the Physically Disabled as part of Basic Education & Literacy Month. We will be reading to students from Grades 1–3 every Wednesday in September, with interactive themed sessions that make reading fun and engaging! 🎉 Volunteer Opportunities: 🗓 Dates: September 11, 18, & 25 ⏰ Time: Two 30-minute slots each week 📍 Location: The Bahamas Association for the Physically Disabled 👩‍🏫 Role: Volunteer readers who will bring stories to life and engage the children in fun, interactive activities.   Weekly Themes: 1. 🌍 Week 1: Adventure & Exploration (September 11)    – Theme: “Journey to New Places”    – Suggested Books: “Where the Wild Things Are” by Maurice Sendak or “The Magic Treehouse” series by Mary Pope Osborne.    – Interactive Activity: ✏️ Create Your Own Adventure – Help children describe an imaginary world or write a short story.    – Suggested Props:🧭 Dress as an explorer, bring a treasure map, and use a globe or map to highlight different places.   2. 🕊 Week 2: Peace & Conflict Resolution (September 18)    – Theme: “Building Peaceful Friendships”    – Suggested Books:“The Peace Rose” by Alicia Olsen, “Enemy Pie” by Derek Munson, or “The Recess Queen” by Alexis O’Neill.    – Interactive Activity:🎨 Art for Peace – Guide children to color peace-themed drawings and help them write peace pledges.    – Props: 🖍 Provide printed coloring sheets and materials for creating peace pledges to hang in the classroom.   3. 🐻 Week 3: Nature & Animals (September 25)    – Theme: “Amazing Animals”    – Suggested Books:“The Very Hungry Caterpillar” by Eric Carle or “Owl Moon” by Jane Yolen.    – Interactive Activity: 🦁 Animal Charades – Lead a fun game where children act out their favorite animals while others guess.    – Props:🐯 Bring animal masks, stuffed toys, or pictures for inspiration.   General Tips for Volunteers: 📖 Interactive Reading: Engage the children by asking questions and encouraging them to guess what happens next in the story. The books referenced above are only sugguestions! You are welcomed to bring a favorite book from your collection within the week’s theme.  – 👗 Costumes: Feel free to dress up according to the weekly theme to add excitement! – 📝 Take-Home Materials: Help distribute themed worksheets or coloring pages for the children to enjoy after the session.
